Your BE DO HAVE Superpower
I was in my early thirties when I first heard about the “Be Do Have” principle.
I was attending a 3-day personal leadership seminar and while I don’t remember much else from the event, the concept of “Be Do Have” woke me up to a whole new way of perceiving and interpreting the world around me.
Up until that point I had assumed, like most people I know, that the world worked according to the principles of “Have, Do, Be.”
The idea that first we need to:
HAVE that which we desire (more money, time, love, etc.) so that we can then
DO the thing we desire (take the trip, buy the house, start the business) which will lead us to
BE (happy, fulfilled, generous etc.)
So I was really intrigued to see this concept flipped on its head.
Instead of “Have, Do, Be” the seminar leader was asking us to consider that life actually works according to the principle of “Be, Do, Have.”
First you have to decide who you need to:
BE (courageous, confident, happy, kind, etc.) so that you can
DO the thing (take the risk, start the business, have the talk, forgive the person) in order to
HAVE that which you desire (the successful business, the amazing relationship, the beautiful home).
Once I understood this, I felt like I had access to a hidden superpower!
I started to see how by shifting who I was “being” in each moment, I had the power to influence the outcome of that which I desired.
That’s why today, when I work with my clients, one of the first exercises I have them do, is to identify the qualities of who they need to BE in order to HAVE the results they want in their business.
Here’s an outline of what the process looks like:
✅ Step 1: Write down the goal or result you’d like to achieve in your business (we’re focusing on business but this can work for any area of your life).
✅ Step 2: Identify 2-3 people who you admire that have achieved the level of success or results you’re aspiring to achieve.
✅ Step 3: Write down all the qualities that you admire about who they are and how they show up in their business. What are they doing, saying and/or how are they behaving that leads you to look up to them? Remember the focus is on who they are BEING not on what they have.
👉🏻 Aim to have a list of at least 20 qualities that you admire.
✅ Step 4: Once you’ve completed the list, select the top 5 traits/characteristics that if you could embody would most help you to move your business forward.
✅ Step 5: Looking at your list of the top 5 traits, consider how you would rate yourself today on how effectively you demonstrate these qualities in your own business. Give yourself a rating of 1-10 for each trait.
✅ Step 6: Now ask yourself what would it look like if you were to show up as a 9 or 10 for each trait. What would you say? What decisions would you make? What opportunities would you explore? Who would you reach out to?
Really feel into what it would look like and feel like for you to fully embody each of these qualities.
Once you’ve connected to this higher version of yourself you are now in the BEING state.
Ask yourself what is it you need to Do in order to HAVE that which you desire?
Listen to what comes up for you as a next step and take action from this empowered place.
